About Galen Hazelhofer
After years of working as a graphic designer, I am retired and am doing what I love to do, using my talents to help animal rescue groups. My heart has always been with animals and I have always been a mom to my rescue dogs and couldn't live without them. So I started doing custom pet portraits as well as elephants (yes, elephants!) and am broadening my animal repertoire with colorful zebras and much in the works.
I want so much to help animals that I have donated paintings to a number of animal rescue groups for their fundraisers in the past.
I have done paintings of a couple of the Performing Animal Welfare Society's elephants for their fundraisers. My heart breaks with the horror stories of the grim existence elephants endure in circuses and most zoos (don't get me started!) and if finally freed to go to a sanctuary, these wonderful folks give them the opportunity to just be elephants and roam together on hundreds of acres of open land. I am so glad that I can use my talent to help out this incredible organization.
I now volunteer at an animal shelter in Sacramento and have adopted a gorgeous doggie who, it turns out, is a pure bred Am Staffordshire Terrier. He keeps me going to the park when I am not doing graphic design for a client or doing my volunteer work or trying to play (using that word loosely!) my guitar!
My education: three years at Chouinard Art Institute where I studied design, drawing, and painting. I also took several illustration classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco where I fell in love with watercolor.
Thank you for visiting my site! I hope you enjoy my work. If you would like me to do a portrait of your pup, please let me know!
